Nightlife in Berlin
There are night clubs and nightclubs. So your first decisions
are, would you rather dance or just spectate, and what sort of
music appeals to you?
Many legendary Techno clubs grace the city, amongst them 90 Degrees,
Pfefferberg, Duncker and Toxic Basement, though most of these
provide varied programmes with a wider range of music featured
during the week.
A broader selection of music is regularly on offer at clubs like
Speicher in Friedrichshain, or at Waschhaus in Potsdam. But specialised
taste is also catered for. SO 36 in Kreuzberg is famous throughout
the alternative music scene, Flirt in Hellersdorf for its serious
dressers, Knaack Club for its Hongkong Karaoke evenings and Kit
Kat Club for its attempt to recreate the "sin city"
Berlin of the 20s.
The chance to try out some fancy Latin steps? Then La Charanga
in Wedding, with its mix of Meringue and Salsa in a Carribean
atmosphere, or Havanna, in Schöneberg, a three level disco.
Reggae and Soul? Then Fou Na Na tucked away under the S-Bahn
arches in Tiergarten is the place for you.
Current hits from the Charts? Then Big Eden on Ku'damm is a safe
bet to dance the night away or just sit at the bar reflecting
on how tastes change!
In
the summer months, many of the larger venues are hired out for
enormous allnight public parties - the participants can be spotted
at street cafes having breakfast at four in the afternoon the
next day - but if you prefer something a bit more intimate, try
one of the Arts Centres, like the Kulturbrauerei or the Kulturfabrik,
for an evening or late night of anything from nostalgic Ostrock
(DDR music) to Ska.
As you might expect clubs open, close and change their programmes
quite frequently, so it's best to check the current programme
before you commit yourself. And expect to pay a somewhat inflated
price for drinks when you're inside. But you can be pretty sure,
whatever you want, it's there waiting for you somewhere. Let us
help you find it.
