Berlin lies in the middle of the
North European Plain, around 100 miles south of the Baltic, and
has a continental climate. Winters are cold, usually with snow
for some of the period December to April. Spring is sudden - there
are sometimes very warm spells from the end of April. Summers
are very warm indeed and often humid. Long periods of extreme
heat alternate with sudden storms. Autumns are long, mild and
often quite warm till late October. The city is relatively dry
and not very windy.
Spring or Autumn are particularly good times to visit - the air
feels fresher, the leaves are turning and it's easier to feel
active.
