City Sightseeing Tour

You're here, in Berlin, and the city awaits you, but how are you going to go about it? How to fit it all in?

Berliner Dom with TV towerThere's Alexanderplatz, named after the Russian Tsar, flaunting its TV tower with revolving restaurant, the Brandenburg Gate, and the Reichstag, new home of the German parliament, the Checkpoint Charlie museum which meticulously recounts the attempts to cross the Berlin Wall, the site of Hitler's bunker and the planned Holocaust Memorial, the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church poking up into the sky like a broken tooth, the Pergamon and Bode museums on Museum Island with their legendary collections of antiquities, Potsdamer Platz - till recently the biggest building site in Europe, and the two great central boulevards of Kurfürstendamm and Unter den Linden, in the west and east of the city, respectively.

Berlin Travel Service offers three different kinds of private sightseeing tour package, each customised to suit your individual interests, wishes and needs.

For a "hands on" feeling, we recommend The Walk'n'Talk Tour. Travelling on foot and by public transportation, we show you the most significant sights in the city centre close up, giving you some of the historical background and the stories that lie behind the facades of this most fascinating capital city with its chequered history. You can stroll through the vast tent-covered plaza of the new Sony Center on Potsdamer Platz, or explore the bullet holes that still scar buildings in the east. Two hours minimum duration, four hours recommended.

Wall painting - Breznev and HonneckerFor a broader perspective, the Tour on Wheels allows you the leisure and comfort of a chauffeured drive taking in sights across the city, with personalised commentary from an experienced and informed guide, plus the opportunity to choose where you stop to stretch your legs and take pictures. You could drive the length of a remaining section of the Berlin Wall, with its celebrated painting of Breznev and Honnecker - "The Kiss", explore in more detail the gardens of one of the great Prussian palaces like Schloss Charlottenburg, or simply stop, on impulse, to look at something that catches your fancy. Two hours minimum duration, four hours recommended.

The Grand Tour offers a complete tour of Berlin's most famous sites - from the shopper's paradise of Ku'damm to Berlin's 100 year old elevated railway system; from soviet tanks guarding the Soviet Memorial to the glass dome on the Reichstag; from the neo-classical splendour of the Imperial buildings and churches along Unter den Linden to Berlin's staggering modernist centre at Potsdamer Platz. Get the insider stories of a city which was founded 1000 years ago on a muddy island in the middle of the River Spree and has survived Prussian domination, the Third Reich and the Iron Curtain. Tour includes an elegant lunch/dinner at a local favourite, serving traditional Berliner cuisine. Eight to ten hours in duration.

Alternatively, The Grand Tour can be an excursion to Berlin's neighboring city of Potsdam and Friedrich the Great's attempt to rival Versailles, with his palace Sanssouci and Cecilienhof, place of the famous Potsdam Agreement signed by Churchill, Truman and Stalin.

All three tours can be tuned to your particular interests - you simply agree the route with your guide, who will do their level best to make your visit as informative, entertaining and comfortable as possible.
